Bisate Lodge sits inside a restored volcanic amphitheatre on the slopes of the Virunga range, with just a handful of forest-villa suites built into the hillside and a large-scale reforestation project running alongside it. It's the most established luxury base for Volcanoes National Park gorilla trekking, with porters, trekking gear and a packed breakfast all arranged from the lodge itself.
Built into the forested rim of the Ngorongoro Crater, this lodge is one of the most theatrical properties in East Africa — opulent, Maasai-inspired suites with chandeliers, hand-carved furniture and crater views from a private deck. It's the closest accommodation to the crater floor itself, cutting the drive time to the morning's game viewing to almost nothing.
Singita Sasakwa sits on its own private hilltop within the Grumeti concession on the western edge of the Serengeti, with colonial-era architecture, antique furnishings and sweeping views over the plains below. Its position inside a private, low-density concession means exceptional game viewing without the vehicle density found in the central park, and a private airstrip puts it within easy reach of Arusha or other northern circuit lodges.
Perched on the edge of the Oloololo Escarpment, Angama Mara looks straight down onto the Mara Triangle from nearly 300 metres above the plains. Each of its glass-fronted suites frames the view like a piece of art, and the lodge's setting — combined with genuinely excellent guiding — has made it one of East Africa's most photographed properties. It's a partner we recommend often for guests who want a single, unforgettable base for their Mara stay.
Ol Donyo Lodge sits in the Chyulu Hills, within sight of Mount Kilimanjaro and bordering the Amboseli ecosystem's elephant corridors. Suites open onto private 'star beds' for sleeping under the open sky, and the lodge runs its own horseback safari programme alongside standard game drives — a distinctive combination in this part of Kenya.
Set directly on the banks of the Mara River, Sanctuary Olonana pairs riverside luxury tents with full lodge-style service — a spa, a dedicated wine cellar and a small fleet of well-maintained vehicles. Its location puts guests within easy reach of the river-crossing points during migration season, and hippos and crocodiles are a regular sight from the lodge deck itself.
